Bullguard’s backup software is fully complimentary to their internet security 9.0 package, and lets you save key data from your computer such as documents, photos, music etc. onto either storage devices such as CDs, USB memory sticks, or onto an online storage space.
The idea behind this service, is to make sure that if the worst happens and your computer is physically damaged, stolen, or if it crashes and the data on it is unrecoverable for some reason, you won’t lose all your precious files because you’ll have backed them up to a location outside of your computer. The system costs £30 to buy, but Bullguard offer everyone a free 14 day trial. (more…)
NAS (Networks Attached Storage) drives have been around for quite some time and so have online backup services but strangely it is incredibly difficult to combine the two. I own drives from Iomega and Buffalo but so far it has been impossible to find a reliable service that allows me to backup my NAS drives without installing software on my computer.
Why can’t Iomega install Mozy (which is also owned by EMC) on the NAS drives they sell? I know there are some hacks to make backups from a NAS to Amazon’s S3, but I would much rather make use of the space I have at Mozy.
*rant over* 🙂 Oh, and I would love suggestions in the comments for a NAS which can do automatic independent online backups!
Small and Medium Businesses are very careless when it comes to making backups. Annually one in three companies lose digital data while 16 percent of all SMB’s do not make any backups!
Within Small and Medium Businesses (up to 150 employees) data loss is in most cases (64 percent) caused by a computer crash. Other causes are employees (accidentally) damaging the data (21 percent), power outages (16 percent) and theft, fire or other kinds of physical damage (20 percent). Most companies (66 percent) only take measures when the harm has already been done. Losing data means losing productivity which can cost between 1000 and 25000 dollars a day, depending on the size of the company and the severity of the data loss. (more…)
Facts about SSD drives
Solid-state drives (SSD) are computer drives that do not contain any moving parts. A solid-state drive is a data storage device that uses solid-state memory to store persistent data. A SSD emulates a hard disk drive interface, which means that you can easily replace your old hard disk drive in most systems.
Even though Solid State Disk drives have made steady progress in gaining popularity over the last year, there are still many people who are not yet convinced of the superiority of SSD technology over the regular disk based hard drives.
There have been a number of persistent rumors and misconceptions about SSD drives which I shall address in this post. (more…)
But most people have not yet discovered the convenience of online backups, and for those people I have decided to create a list some of the most important advantages of online backup.
Last month I received a new yearly hosting invoice and although it was not very expensive, I thought it was a waste not to do anything with FileinaBox.com. Especially considering that from the Webalizer stats it appears that quite a lot of visitors come to see whether they can buy my domain name! (more…)
Many small companies are vulnerable to data loss through theft and virus infections. Yet most companies believe that their security is well secured.
This according to research among 400 representatives of SME companies in the Digi-conscious Program, a collaboration of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and industry. (more…)
An online backup service allows you to securely make remote backups of critical data stored on PCs, servers and laptop computers. The data is transported via a high-speed broadband connection such as ADSL, Cable or Fios.
The online backup software performs regular and automatic backups of your files to avoid the loss of important information in the course of theft or loss of your computer, virus attacks, hard disk failures and other calamities. (more…)
